You ever hear a song that you just connect to? I mean, it’s like every word just resonates with everything you’ve been going through? Karen Hornsby’s music is like that. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Karen for several years, so I was excited when we sat down and she told me her vision for her upcoming concert and subsequent tour called “It’s Almost Morning”. I was floored though when she said she wanted to hire us to create all the video content. What an awesome, exciting, and massive undertaking. The great part is there’s something about Karen’s music (www.karenhornsby.com) that makes it easy for a storyteller to work with though. It’s probably because it’s real, it’s authentic, it’s raw…all those feeling things that I love to write from and work with.
Karen’s story has something for everyone (Karen’s Story). Mostly because she’s been through just about everything a human can possibly go through. And yet, she keeps going and helping others move forward in their own lives too. She and her husband Todd are probably some of the strongest, most persevering people I know. They are determined that God will be glorified through it all. Their daughter, Gabbi, is a sweetheart, so full of love and joy you can’t help but smile around her. You really couldn’t ask for a more amazing story to be entrusted with telling.
This production’s primary goal is about complimenting her music. The videos will be played during her live performances. I am going to try and give them a festival run too, but the main purpose is for the “It’s Almost Morning Tour” which will officially launch October 9, (For Tickets). It’s an incredible honor to be participating in such a large event with such great special guests.
My approach to the videos might be slightly different than a typical music video. Because they are going to be playing behind Karen, I didn’t want her to be a focal point of the videos. My main goal is to create stories that make her music even more accessible: meaning that no matter who you were or what you’ve been through, here are some additional points where you can see yourself connected to the music and message. For that, we need to create compelling stories and engaging visuals.
Over the course of the next few weeks, I’ll be pulling back the curtain about our casting process, introducing you to members of our crew and production staff, maybe even share some behind the scenes pictures and footage, and mostly talking openly about how a production of this size actually happens. It’s all quite an amazing adventure. So I hope you enjoy it!
